On this United Nations Day, let us honour the constant effort, courage and dedication of the United Nations staff working in the aftermath of the recent floods in Pakistan.
Pakistan is a second home to me. I am honoured and privileged to be able to work for Pakistan again at such a crucial time when the people of Pakistan are looking towards the United Nations for their support and leadership now more than ever. It is our mission to respond and help pave their way for a better, sustainable livelihood. I look forward to working closely with the Resident Coordinator and the Humanitarian Coordinator in this challenging endeavor.
Let me express my sincere thanks to the UN family in Pakistan for the warm welcome extended to me since my arrival on 6 October. This is a time when we must stand united in the spirit of solidarity and teamwork. I assure you that I will do my utmost to fulfill my mission as Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Assistance to Pakistan and would like to ask for your continued support, hard work and kind cooperation.
